The foundations of modern banking

Vault Core and Vault Payments are trusted by the world’s leading banks. Core banking and payments technology built natively for the cloud.

A modern core banking and payments platform in the cloud

The Vault platform gives banks complete control to build and run any financial product or payment scheme they want. We designed both systems from scratch – giving our clients total choice, flexibility, and power.

Vault Core

Vault Core is our cloud-native core banking platform, built from scratch to run in the cloud. It is cloud agnostic, giving banks total flexibility to choose the hosting option and provider that best meets their needs.

Using Vault Core, banks can run any product they wish, allowing them to control and shape their strategy as they see fit. It can replicate a bank’s existing back book of products and create entirely new ones, including current and savings accounts, credit cards, loans, and mortgages.

Banks have launched products from our Product Library, a catalogue of more than 200 preconfigured financial products, or built products themselves such as buy-now-pay-later offerings, a combined debit and credit card, offset mortgages and much more.

Vault Payments

Vault Payments is our cloud-native payments processing platform designed to enable banks to run all payment types for every method, scheme, and region in the world.

Vault Payments seamlessly and dynamically embeds new and existing financial products into the payment platform while granting clients complete control over the payment’s life cycle. Vault Payments launched with card issuing and processing support on the Mastercard network.

Deployment

Deployment Type

Banks have complete choice to deploy the Vault platform depending on their specific needs and strategic objectives. Our global team of delivery experts ensures that every deployment is executed to the highest standard.

Digital greenfield banks

We work with leading innovative banks and fintechs around the world to launch new, digital-first banks. Launching a digital bank on an old technology stack can be a painful experience. The front-end app may look good but the time taken to build and launch innovative product propositions is too slow and costly.

Building a digital bank on the Vault platform is a different experience: our smart contracts architecture allows banks to launch any product, and our API-first, microservices-based technology allows banks to integrate with any system.

We enable rapid speed-to-market through:

  • Pre-built integrations with best-in-class technology vendors
  • Pre-built banking products that can be launched as they are or tuned to meet customer needs
  • Our network of highly trained partners who can support banks anywhere in the world
Coexistence

Banks build new, cloud-native technology stacks alongside their existing core in coexistence deployments. Existing and back book products run on the old core, while new products are launched on the new Vault-enabled cloud-native stack. Often the new and old stacks share customer channels, which means the customer can start using products on the new stack without disrupting their user experience.

Deploying the Vault platform as a coexistence architecture allows banks to launch new products and features alongside existing product offerings (e.g. reward accounts) using our coexistence approach. This approach offers a seamless end-customer experience, in which the customer will never observe a changing of systems behind the scenes.

Our technology enables the simple routing of information, and ease of migration, between a mainframe and the Vault platform. Pluggable architecture in this approach allows for existing mainframe components to be replaced, over time, by modern platforms.

Once a bank has tested the Vault platform, they may choose to complete a full migration of all their customers.

Migration

The Vault platform cannot only be used to manage a bank’s front book of products but the existing bank can also be migrated onto our platform. Complex back book products can be recreated, and our migration tooling de-risks the migration process and enables the migration of a customer’s complete financial history.

Banks have migrated, or have committed to migrating, more than 289 million accounts onto Vault Platform.

The Vault platform enables full data migrations where a bank wants to move all its existing products, ledgers and account records from a legacy system to our core. Vault Platform is best placed to enable this, as 1) the Universal Product Engine can perfectly replicate the financial behaviour of all the bank’s existing products, and 2) our migration APIs provide a rich set of functionality that allow seamless, gradual migrations, avoiding the need for the higher risk ‘big bang’ approaches.

Specifically, our migration tooling de-risks and minimises core banking migration timelines through a simple-to-use API entry-point architecture, which has been designed to performantly support common migration use cases and help banks of all shapes and sizes overcome their migration challenges. For example, configurable dependency fields enable banks to send legacy data to Vault Core in any order instead of in highly orchestrated sequential loads, which saves time and reduces the risk of manual error over migration events.

Integrations

Integrations and real-time data

The Vault platform uses an API-driven architecture, allowing banks to build any stack they want. A bank can integrate with existing sources of truth and with other leading technology vendors.

Real-time data is also published across all components, giving the bank full visibility and instant access to valuable customer and system data.

Our platform allows banks to:

  • Increase their responsiveness to business change by enabling real-time actions to be taken based on streamed events
  • Have intra-day financial positions, real-time fraud detection, and up-to-date views on financial and operational risk
  • Use near real-time granular data to enable advanced analytic capabilities such as machine learning
  • Make changes to a product’s underlying smart contract without altering the downstream integrations that receive these events. Similarly, integrations can be changed without intervening in product functionality.
Integration Library

Banks have access to our Integration Library of connections to other leading cloud-native vendors across the entire banking stack.

The Integrations Library provides connections to multiple vendors across each part of the banking stack and for each segment (retail, business, Islamic banking) – giving banks the choice to build what suits their needs. Each integration can be adapted by the bank as required.

Integrations have been built by Thought Machine, the vendor, or developed with technology or consultancy partners.

Delivery

We pride ourselves on consistently delivering successful deployments. We work with banks to provide the delivery approach best suited to their needs:
Self service

In this model, the bank largely deploys the Vault platform itself. This is possible through:

  • An extensive SDK and documentation explaining every aspect of platform functionality and behaviour
  • Our training portal for banks to train and certify their staff. This allows them to rapidly up-skill and support configuration and deployment.
Our experts
  • Our expert client services teams works alongside banks or partners, transferring skills and knowledge, providing configuration, architecture and migration expertise and ensuring successful deployment
  • We can either empower banks to become self-sufficient and take full ownership of future product expansion or provide long-term support services

Partners

Banks can utilise our global network of highly trained partners to support them in deploying the Vault platform. Partners have successfully worked with banks across the world to implement our technology.

We maintain an extensive network of delivery partners who can guide the bank on every step of the journey – whether specific technical support, such as building integrations with third parties or managing large-scale change. All our delivery partners have provided Thought Machine-certified teams and have experience deploying the Vault platform worldwide.

Who we partner with

Partners are fundamental to helping us revolutionise banking. Together, we liberate banks from the constraints of legacy technologies and help them accelerate digital transformation, build customer trust and achieve sustainable business growth.

Consulting partners

Our consulting partners play an important role in helping clients develop, implement and execute digital transformation strategies that centre on creating banks of the future while intelligently managing operational and regulatory compliance risks.

Technology providers

Technology providers enhance how we serve clients by building best-in-breed, interoperable solutions with Vault Core. Together, we enable banks to deliver on their ambitions to create a frictionless customer experience.
